Lok Sabha Adjourned Till 2 PM Amid Uproar by Opposition Over PM Statement on Manipur

The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm on Tuesday amid uproar by Opposition members demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a detailed statement on the situation in Manipur.

The Opposition members were protesting against the killing of 14 civilians in firing by security forces in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on July 23. They were also demanding the suspension of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the House.

As soon as the House assembled, the Opposition members started raising slogans and demanding a statement by the Prime Minister. They also refused to allow the Question Hour to be taken up.

Speaker Om Birla tried to pacify the Opposition members but to no avail. He adjourned the House till 2 pm.

The Opposition members are likely to continue their protest in the House when it reconvenes. They have also threatened to boycott the Monsoon Session if the Prime Minister does not make a statement on the Manipur situation.

The Manipur issue has also been a major talking point on social media. Several hashtags, including #ManipurViolence and #ShameOnModi, have been trending on Twitter.

The Opposition has accused the government of trying to suppress the truth about the Manipur violence. They have also demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.

The government has so far refused to make a statement on the Manipur situation. However, Home Minister Amit Shah has said that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

The Manipur violence has once again brought to the fore the issue of human rights violations in the Northeast. The region has been witnessing a series of violent incidents in recent years.

The Opposition is likely to continue to pressurize the government on the Manipur issue. It remains to be seen whether the government will make a statement on the issue in the Lok Sabha.
