Massive Fire Guts Clothing Market in Howrah, Dozens of Shops Destroyed

A massive fire broke out in a clothing market in Howrah, West Bengal, in the early hours of Friday, destroying dozens of shops. The fire started at around 2:00 AM at Mangala Haat, a wholesale and retail market for textiles. It quickly spread to nearby shops, and by the time firefighters arrived, the blaze was already out of control.

It took 18 fire tenders over four hours to bring the fire under control. No casualties were reported, but the damage is estimated to be in the millions of rupees. Many of the shops that were destroyed were stocked with goods for the upcoming Eid festival, which is expected to be a major shopping event in the region.
