Ashwin’s 5-for puts India in command on Day 1 of Test series

Ravichandran Ashwin starred with the ball as India took control of the first Test against West Indies in Dominica on Wednesday.

The veteran spinner claimed his 33rd five-wicket haul in Test cricket, helping to restrict the hosts to 150 all out in their first innings.

Ashwin’s figures of 5-60 were complemented by Ravindra Jadeja, who took 3-26.

In reply, India reached 80-0 at stumps, with Rohit Sharma (30) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (40) unbeaten at the crease.

Ashwin’s performance was all the more impressive given that he was playing his first Test since being dropped for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand last month.

The 35-year-old’s return to form is a major boost for India, who are looking to build on their recent Test series victory in England.
