Lakshya Sen Storms into Canada Open Final, PV Sindhu Loses to Yamaguchi

Lakshya Sen stormed into the final of the Canada Open Super 500 badminton tournament on Saturday, defeating Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in straight games. The 21-year-old Indian, who is ranked world number 19, won 21-17, 21-14 in 43 minutes.

Sen will face China’s Li Shi Feng in the final on Sunday. Li is ranked world number 10.

In the women’s singles semifinals, PV Sindhu suffered a 14-21, 15-21 loss to world number 1 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan. Sindhu, who is ranked world number 7, had a chance to take the first game but Yamaguchi rallied to win.

The loss to Yamaguchi ended Sindhu’s hopes of winning her third Canada Open title. She had previously won the tournament in 2018 and 2019.
