Yashasvi Jaiswal scores century on Test debut, says “this is just the start”

Yashasvi Jaiswal made history on Wednesday, becoming the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut. The 19-year-old opener hit 143 not out as India posted a first-innings total of 368 in the first Test against the West Indies in Dominica.

Jaiswal’s innings was a masterclass in strokeplay. He hit 16 fours and a six, and he batted with maturity and composure beyond his years. He was particularly impressive against the short ball, which he dispatched with ease.

After the match, Jaiswal was humble in victory. “I’ve just gone out to express myself,” he said. “Thankful for everyone, this is just a start and I want to do well going further.”

Jaiswal’s century is a sign of great things to come for the young batsman. He has all the tools to be a world-class player, and he is already making a name for himself at the highest level.
