4 Security Forces, 1 Militant Killed in Shootout in Southwest Pakistan

QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) – A shootout between security forces and militants in southwestern Pakistan killed four security forces and one militant on Sunday, officials said.

The shootout took place in the Shirani district of Balochistan province, bordering North Waziristan, where militants have multiple hideouts.

Local police chief Abdul Salam Baloch said the militants attacked a joint security post of police and paramilitary forces, using hand grenades, rocket-propelled grenades, and assault rifles.

The security forces fought back, and the shootout lasted for about two hours. In the end, four security forces and one militant were killed.

Two militants and one paramilitary trooper were also wounded in the shootout.

The security forces have launched a search operation in the area to track down the remaining militants.

The attack comes at a time when Pakistan is facing a renewed wave of violence from militants. In recent months, there have been a number of high-profile attacks on security forces and civilians.

The government has vowed to crack down on militants, and has stepped up security measures across the country.
